Rivers We Fish

Missouri River

As you drive along Route 15 North of Helena, Mt you pass a sign that says, Gates of the Mountains. This is when you know you are getting close to the famous tailwater section of the Missouri River, from Holter Dam to Cascade, 40 miles of trout heaven.  At certain times of the year, it feels like you are floating in an aquarium, watching groups of massive rainbow’s slice through the water under your drift boat; it’s a sight to behold. The Missouri River offers one of the best opportunities to catch a 20 inch” plus trout on a dry fly anywhere in Montana. This is a dry fly destination you will want to have on your bucket list.

The Blackfoot River

If you love to fly fish, you owe it to yourself to float this river – made famous by the novel, The River Runs Through It. The Blackfoot starts along the continental divide near Lincoln and drops in elevation over 3,000 feet. This is a classic, freestone stream with numerous rifles, runs, and pools throughout your float. The river runs through amazing canyons, heavy timber, and open valleys surrounded by beautiful peaks and loaded with a variety of hungry trout that love to take a dry fly! The Blackfoot is typically a little colder than other surrounding freestones and can be a great place to throw a hopper in the summer heat. There is nothing like watching a slow, subtle take of a beautiful cutthroat eating your fly!

Madison River

The Madison River is a gem of Southwestern Montana, a fishing treasure worth exploring!  With the Sphynx Mountain keeping watch, its continual riffles slice through the Madison, Gravely, and Tobacco Root Mountain Ranges ending its journey in the Missouri River. Being a tailwater, the Madison River fishes consistently year-round producing a plethora of bugs for the trout to feed on.   Taking a trip during the legendary salmon fly hatch will leave more than a large rainbow hooked by the end of the day.  Casting your line over these beautiful wild browns, rainbows, and cutthroats is a treat you don’t want to miss out on!

Jefferson River

Awesome views without the crowds, the Jefferson is an overlooked river by many. It has all of the charm that so many seek in a fishery in Montana. The Jefferson flows approximately 80 miles – formed by the Big Hole, Beaverhead, and Ruby Rivers, and later flows into the Missouri River. Its waters, when fished at the right times of the year, can produce some of the best fishing in the area. Come check out this river with us, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the Wild Montana Browns and Rainbows!

The Ruby River

The Ruby is a hidden gem in southwest Montana, much smaller in size than many of the surrounding area rivers, but don’t let that fool you, the Ruby offers some amazing walk-wade opportunities. This is the type of water that is easy to read and break down where the fish will hold. Full of amazing wild browns, rainbows, and cutthroat. The Ruby offers a variety of angling opportunities from headhunting selective trout sipping PMDs to throwing a grasshopper against the bank. If going deep is your style it’s also an excellent nymph and streamer river.
